Just released is Hornby's new sound fitted steam engine- The Gresley A4.
Overall the sound is poor. Once again they have fitted an oversized speaker without any enclosure, again producing a tinny sound.
The 3 cylinder beat is very hard to distinguish- if there at all- sounds more like an american engine.
At full throttle, the sound is more akin to a sewing machine than a living breathing engine!
On the positive side the whistle is very pleasant to hear. and has a nice throaty blow off sound.
As a starter sound loco for the steam fan, you will soon want a better sound and more functionality. although for the price, we would say spend that little more and get the A4 in the name/ livery you want- Rather than what you're told to have!
We are also offering the speaker mod- like we offer for the Duchess to give you an improved sound and offer the free reblow to our sound if purchased from us.
You will not be disappointed with our Mod.
